EASED EDGE- The chamfered, or beveled edge, of strip wood flooring, plank, block, and parquet at approximately a 45 degree angle.
Edging --
The hand tooling of the arris.
EFFLORESCENCE
: The residue deposited on the surface of a material (usually the grout joint) by crystallization of soluble salts. Visually observable signs of saline discharge onto a portion of a masonry wall.
ELASTOMERIC- Any of various elastic substances resembling rubber.
EMBOSSED -- (CARPET)-The type of pattern that is formed when heavy twisted tufts are used in a ground of straight yarns to create an engraved appearance. Both the straight and twisted yarns are often of the same color.
                   
(CERAMIC)
- A decoration in relief or excised on the wear surface of the tile.
END-1. An individual strand of yarn. 2. a short length or remnant
END-JOINT
-The place where two pieces of wood flooring are joined together end to end.
END MATCHED
- In strip and plank wood flooring the ends of individual pieces have a tongue milled on one end and a groove milled on the opposite end, so that when the individual strips or planks are butted together, the tongue of one piece engages the groove of the next piece. OR A male projection milled on one edge of a strip, plank, slat or unit to be engaged with a female counterpart on an adjoining unit.
Entablature --
Incorporates an architrave, frieze, and cornice.
Entasis --T
he portion of a classic column which has a diminishing arc on the shaft. The lower third of the column is straight (two-thirds entasis column).
EPOXY ADHESIVE
: An adhesive system employing epoxy hardener portions.
EPOXY GROUT: A mortar system employing epoxy resin and epoxy hardener portions.
EPOXY MORTAR: A system employing epoxy resins and hardener portions, often containing coarse silica filler and which is usually formulated for industrial and commercial installations where chemical resistance is of paramount importance.
EPOXY RESIN: An epoxy composition used as a chemical resistant setting adhesive or chemical resistant grout.
Erection --Setting of large stones usually with a crane.
EQUILIBRIUM MOISTURE CONTENT- The moisture content at which wood neither
gains nor loses moisture when surrounded by air at a given relative humidity and temperature.
EUROPEAN TILE STANDARDS (GROUP A, GROUP B): Used by European Manufacturers in compliance with the European Tile Standards (CEN). Group "A" tiles are made by the extrusion process. Group "B" tiles are made by the dust pressed method. These letters are preceded by the Roman numerals which indicate water absorption.
I = 0-3%, IIa = 3-6%, IIb = 6-10% and III = over 10%
EXPANSION JOINT: A joint through the tile, mortar and reinforcing wire down to the substrate.
EXTENDED LENGTH -- The length of the face pile yarn used to make one inch of tufted carpet
Extrados --
The outer portion of an arch.
EXTRUDED TILE
: A tile unit that is formed when plastic clay mixtures are forced through a pug mill opening (die) of suitable configuration, resulting in a continuous ribbon of formed clay. A wire cutter or similar cut-off device is then used to cut the ribbon into appropriate lengths and widths of tile.
