Keystone --The unit at the center of an arch. It is generally wedge shaped when viewed in elevation.
KILN- a chamber having controlled air flow, temperature, and relative humidity, for drying lumber, veneer, and other wood products.
kiln dry -- dried in a kiln with the use of artificial heat.
KNEE KICKER -- A short tool with gripping "teeth" at one end and a padded cushion at the other, used in stretching carpet during installation.
KNITTING -- A method of fabricating a carpet in one operation. Surface and backing yarns are looped together with a stitching yarn on machines with three sets of needles.
KNOT
--(CARPET)- A result of tying two yarn ends together.
           
(WOOD)
-That portion of a branch or limb which has been surrounded by subsequent growth of the stem. The shape of the k not as it appears on a cut surface depends on the angle of the cut relative to the long axis of the knot.
    small knot -- in hardwood strip flooring not over 1/2 inch in diameter.
    pin not -- a knot that is not more than 1/2 inch in diameter.
    sound knot -- a knot cut approximately parallel to its long axis so that the exposed section is definitely elongated.
KRAFTCORD-- A tightly twisted yarn made from Kraft paper, used as a backing yarn in carpet weaves as an alternate for cotton or jute.
KUSTERS DYEING -- Named after the Kusters dye machine. This is a piece dyeing technique that allows uniform and continuous dyeing in great quantities.
